Instructional Design
National ForestRY foundation
FOR
forestry training
Translating specialist forestry knowledge into intuitive visual training tools that support safer decision-making and practical field learning.
STRATEGIC ALIGNMENT
Partnered directly with forestry specialists to define operational priorities, educational goals, and communication needs.
SYSTEM DESIGN
Built a visual framework that translated dense technical knowledge into consistent instructional communication.
PRODUCTION LEADERSHIP
Led production efforts while maintaining consistency, clarity, and technical credibility across the broader instructional system.
challenge & APPROACH
The National Forest Foundation needed complex operational procedures translated into clear instructional communication.
Success required close collaboration with forestry specialists, strong visual systems thinking, and production leadership capable of scaling technical knowledge into cohesive training tools.
defining visual language
and finding the balance
Early exploration focused on identifying the most effective visual language for forestry training. The goal was to create illustrations that felt technically credible while remaining clear, approachable, and fast to understand in instructional environments.
Photo-Realism added authenticity, but too much visual complexity.
Improved readability, but lacked technical credibility.
Felt sterile and disconnected from the nature of the subject matter.
Balanced realism and clarity, creating a cohesive visual language.
The final direction prioritized fast comprehension without sacrificing authenticity or technical trust.
DIRECTING PRODUCTION
Establishing the visual language was only part of the challenge.
Scaling it across production required clear direction, consistent standards, and close alignment between technical expertise and creative execution.
I hired and guided a team of artists through the translation of knowledge and ensured the final instructional materials remained cohesive, credible, and effective.
OUTCOME
The results transformed dense procedures into clear instructional tools that were consistent and easier to apply in training environments.
Thanks to the communication of expertise, we were able to establish a scalable framework for translating complex knowledge into effective educational materials.
