Diptyque
Brought in to solve a material replication challenge while helping shape a luxury retail environment rooted in North Texas.
Diptyque’s vision required both technical problem solving and environmental storytelling. I developed a repeatable sculptural wall finish based on an unresolved French reference, then helped define and execute a custom mural concept that grounded the store in regional atmosphere while remaining true to the brand.
THE CHALLENGE
01
Diptyque’s design called for a sculptural wall treatment based on an existing French concept that local teams had been unable to recreate.
The texture needed to be reverse engineered into a workable system that could be repeated consistently across the installation while preserving the intended luxury finish.
At the same time, the store required a custom environmental mural that reflected North Texas in a way that felt sophisticated, subtle, and aligned with Diptyque’s visual language.
Concept Exploration
02
Design Strategy
My primary focus was translating the given sculpted texture samples into a repeatable and teachable execution. This involved analyzing the original finish, developing material tests, and refining an application system that could be taught and repeated consistently.
Alongside this, the broader environmental artwork direction evolved through collaborative concept development and refinement, ensuring the final atmosphere felt regionally grounded while remaining elegant and restrained.
Together, these decisions helped shape an environment that felt intentional, immersive, and true to brand.
Approved Direction
03
MATERIAL DEVELOPMENT
Recreating the sculptural wall finish required hands-on experimentation and iterative material development.
I tested texture scale, depth, spacing, and application methods to determine how the original reference could be translated into a repeatable physical system.
The goal was not simply visual similarity, but a finish that preserved the intended tactile sophistication while remaining practical for installation.
04
execution
Once the design direction was approved, execution focused on precision, consistency, and collaboration.
After successfully recreating the sculptural finish, I trained the sculpt team on the application method to ensure the texture could be reproduced faithfully throughout installation.
For the mural, the approved concept served as the framework for final hand-painted execution. Care was taken to preserve the softness and restraint of the original design while adapting it to the physical architecture of the space.
The result was a unified environment where material craftsmanship and environmental storytelling worked together seamlessly.
05
THE OUTCOME
The finished installation resolved a complex production challenge while preserving the design intent of the original concept.
A sculptural wall finish that had previously remained unresolved was successfully translated into a repeatable physical application method, allowing the texture to be executed consistently across the space without losing its sophistication.
At the same time, the broader environment came together through thoughtful visual storytelling, with the North Texas mural contributing a sense of place that felt regionally grounded while remaining aligned with Diptyque’s refined brand language.
The final result was not simply a completed installation, but a cohesive retail environment where collaborative execution and environmental design worked together to create a polished customer experience.
